Frequently Asked Questions

How do I sign up?
Click ‘Get Started’ in the top right corner of our website to begin. You’ll be taken through a quick and simple registration process, and our team will reach out to help you get started.
Is this program suitable for me?
Absolutely. KOPD is designed for anyone living with Parkinson’s, at any stage or level of fitness, function, or experience. Our classes are led by Accredited Exercise Physiologists who tailor the program to meet your individual needs. You don’t need to be fit, coordinated, or experienced — you just need to show up.
Your level will be assessed before or during your first session to make sure it’s the right fit.
Do I need any experience?
No experience is required. Most of our members had never boxed or exercised regularly before joining KOPD. All you need is clearance from your GP or Neurologist via a short medical form we’ll send you upon registration.
If you need support during the session, a carer or family member can accompany you — and we even offer a Corner Pass that allows them to join in at no extra cost.
Is this a contact boxing program?
No. KOPD is a non-contact program. You’ll be punching bags, focus pads, and doing mobility and coordination drills — not sparring or fighting. The goal is to improve movement, function, strength, balance, and quality of life in a safe and empowering environment.
Does it actually help?
Yes — and the research backs it. Numerous studies show that structured, targeted exercise can significantly improve motor symptoms, balance, mood, and quality of life for people with Parkinson’s. Some neurologists now prescribe exercise like ours immediately after diagnosis.
Our members regularly report improved walking, strength, balance, speech, and confidence. We track this with quarterly functional testing — and you can see your progress over time.
Can a carer or family member participate?
Yes! We offer a Corner Pass, which allows one carer or family member to join the session for free. If they’d prefer not to participate, they’re welcome to stay and watch or socialise in our lounge area.
If additional assistance is required during class, please let us know in advance and we’ll accommodate accordingly.
What should I bring?
-
Comfortable workout clothes (shorts or trackpants, t-shirt)
-
A reusable water bottle (preferably one with a straw lid)
-
A towel (beach or bath size is fine)
-
If you have boxing gloves and wraps, bring them — if not, we’ll sort you out
Where are you located?
We run KOPD out of a few sites around Australia. Information on how to find each location is listed on each site's individual page on this website.
What does it cost?
First class is FREE — come observe or jump in and try it out, no pressure and no charge.

Can I freeze or suspend my membership?
Yes. If you're away for 2 weeks or more, let us know at least 1 week in advance and we’ll freeze your membership so you're not charged.
If you're unable to attend due to an unexpected medical event, just let us know as soon as possible. We'll backdate and refund any charges if you’ve missed more than a week.
